Massage Therapy at Evolve Vancouver

Registered Massage Therapy (RMT) is a health profession regulated by the College of Complementary Health Professionals of British Columbia (CCHPBC) under BC’s Health Professions Act.

Each of our Massage Therapists have completed at least 2,200 hours of training and passed comprehensive and rigorous practical and written exams to provide safe and effective health care to your soft tissue and joint problems.

Benefits of Massage Therapy

Massage therapy is known to ease muscle pain, help relieve tension, reduce stress, improve your sleep, and promote relaxation throughout your entire body.

Moreover, repetitive strain injuries as well as neck, back, and shoulder pain can be a part of everyday life. Our professionals are here to guide you through your journey of rehabilitation, no matter the stage you are at.

At Evolve Vancouver, we go beyond providing temporary relief. We look for solutions for long-term health and resiliency.

Our massage therapy provides assessment and treatment for the purposes of developing, maintaining, rehabilitating or augmenting physical function and promoting health. It achieves this through a hands-on approach and an active home-care plan. Coaching is an important part of your treatment plan. We want to help you discover freedom and efficiency in movement.

We want to empower you to move better, and move often, in order for you to improve your physical capacity. Ultimately, our movement and home-care education aims to equip you with the tools you need to succeed on your own, so you can become more independent in your journey to recovery.

Registered Massage Therapy is covered through most extended health benefit plans, and ICBC. Most plans reset on January 1st.

our Unique process

At Evolve Vancouver, we take a 3-step approach in Massage Therapy: Discovery, Manual Therapy and Movement Education. Our approach helps us to narrow down contributing factors of your discomfort and provide a long-term solution for your well-being.

Step 1: Discovery

Discovery is crucial in revealing what may be contributing to your back, neck muscle, or joint pain. Without it, we are just guessing. We assess range of motion, strength, full body movement behaviour, task/sport specific movement, and many more.

These assessments take place throughout the session at different points so that we can compare before and after to see if there are any notable differences in movement and how your body feels. Assessment is a discovery process for both you and your therapist.

Step 2: Manual Therapy

We take a hands-on approach that targets your specific area of complaint and any other surrounding areas that may be involved. Manual therapy may help to improve range of motion, muscle tightness, pain, soreness, and more.

Some examples of treatment include: myofascial release, trigger point therapy, active and passive pin and stretch, active and passive stretching, neuromuscular techniques, muscle energy techniques, instrument assisted soft tissue manipulation (IASTM), joint mobilizations, and more.

Step 3: Movement Education

We place an important emphasis on movement. This is because what you do at home is oftentimes more important than the hands-on portion of treatment.

Manual therapy feels great but its effects are generally temporary. The real long-term change comes from consistency in your home-care plan.

Our facilities are fully equipped to support all experience levels, from dedicated gym goers to busy office workers, whether you have minimal equipment or access to a complete setup. We make it easy to train effectively no matter your starting point or environment.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Registered Massage Therapy (RMT) is a highly regulated medical profession in British Columbia under the College of Complementary Health Professionals of BC. Our RMTs have completed at least 2,200 hours of intensive training and passed rigorous board exams. Unlike a standard relaxation spa massage, RMT treatments are evidence-based, therapeutic interventions designed to assess, rehabilitate, and manage specific musculoskeletal injuries, chronic pain, and physical dysfunction.

Yes, we offer direct billing to most major extended health insurance and work benefit providers. Because our massage therapists are registered in BC, your sessions are likely covered by your extended health benefits plan. Please contact our clinic to verify if we can directly bill your insurance. You’ll need to contact your insurance provider for plan specific coverage information.

Yes, our clinics accept ICBC claims for Registered Massage Therapy. If you are recovering from a motor vehicle accident, ICBC often provides coverage for RMT sessions to help manage the early stages of pain and restore function. We offer dedicated ICBC appointment rates with user fees for your initial 60-minute assessment and subsequent follow-up visits. Please contact our office for ICBC claims prior to booking at 604-600-7399.

At Evolve Vancouver, we utilize a unique 3-step approach: Discovery, Manual Therapy, and Movement Education. Your first visit begins with a comprehensive assessment (Discovery) to identify the root cause of your back, neck, or joint pain. We evaluate your range of motion, strength, and movement patterns. This is followed by customized hands-on treatment (Manual Therapy) and concludes with targeted home-care strategies (Movement Education).

Our therapists take a hands-on approach targeting your specific areas of complaint. Depending on your needs, your RMT may utilize myofascial release, trigger point therapy, active and passive pin-and-stretch, neuromuscular techniques, muscle energy techniques, instrument-assisted soft tissue manipulation (IASTM), and gentle joint mobilizations.

While hands-on manual therapy feels great and provides immediate pain relief, its effects are generally short-term. The real, long-term change comes from consistency in how you move outside the clinic. Our Movement Education phase equips you with active home-care exercises, stretches, and mobility tools so you can become independent in your recovery and less reliant on frequent treatments.

No, you do not need a referral from a medical doctor to see a Registered Massage Therapist in BC. However, some specific extended health insurance providers may require a doctor’s note before they will reimburse you for the treatment. We recommend checking the details of your specific benefits plan prior to booking.

No, you only need to undress to your level of comfort. Our Registered Massage Therapists are highly trained in professional draping techniques, ensuring that you are securely and modestly covered by a sheet or blanket at all times. Only the specific area of the body being actively treated will be exposed. We can even provide treatment through clothing if that’s your preference! Your therapist will discuss your draping options with you during your appointment.

Absolutely. In fact, we highly encourage it. While massage therapy is an excellent passive modality for relieving immediate pain and tissue restriction, Kinesiology and Physiotherapy provide the active rehabilitation needed to build long-term strength. Combining RMT with our other in-house services at our Vancouver and Burnaby clinics ensures a complete, holistic recovery.
