Physiotherapy at Evolve Vancouver
What is Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapists are healthcare professionals who focus on assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of pain, injuries, and movement. Treatment focuses on working with people who have a loss of function from disabilities, health conditions, or injuries (CPTBC, 2022).
Here at Evolve, our Physiotherapists take a holistic approach to learn more about your history and many diverse health factors that may be contributing to your concern. They will work with you one-on-one to determine an effective treatment plan for managing and improving your condition. We will do our best to listen and learn more about your story.

our Unique process
At Evolve Vancouver, we take a 4-step approach to Physiotherapy: Assessment, Treatment and Exercise Prescription and Behaviour Modification.
We take a holistic approach with our process. The body is very complex, but we will do our best to break down and simplify this complexity. Our physiotherapists can provide a wide variety of solutions for issues ranging from sports injuries, chronic pain and even prehabilitation. We understand everyone presents with a unique set of circumstances that can influence the issues you are having. We ensure that your assessment and exercise programs are tailored specifically to you and your unique set of circumstances. Our physiotherapists apply a biopsychosocial lens to your assessment which can help to determine what the major factors contributing to your problem are.
Step 1: Assessment
Our assessment starts with an interview to get a better idea of the history and contributing factors. Our therapists take their time to build rapport and communicate effectively, as this helps to guide the course of treatment. Asking questions throughout the session is an effective way for our therapists to piece together the bigger picture. In addition to an interview, our therapists apply many different types of physical assessments depending on what is most relevant to your situation.
Step 2: Treatment
Physiotherapy treatment encompasses numerous techniques and modalities. Our Physiotherapists take in consideration findings from the assessment as well as past experiences with treatments to help tailor a specific treatment plan for you. This may include manual therapy techniques including joint mobilization or manipulation to reduce joint stiffness and pain as well as soft tissue massage or IMS to decrease muscle tightness and pain.
Step 3: Exercise Prescription
Exercise prescription will vary greatly depending on your goals and expectations. Based on your assessment, we will choose the most appropriate exercises for you. For example, those experiencing pain with movement will be taught new movement strategies that positively support your body. This may mean, in some cases, using pain as a guide through motion. Other times, we may not need to feel pain at all if we can find a realistic and relevant way for you to move. Either way, our goal is to provide you with a challenge so your body can adapt and grow more resilient. And in the long run, we want to teach you more about your body so you can take your health into your own hands, and become empowered. Our Physios are also able to provide movement modifications in cases where we need to give the body a bit of a break.
Step 4: Behavior Modification
Sometimes, our daily habits can be contributing factors. This may include factors such as lack of physical activity and stress management. Being active helps with relaxation, provides increased energy and is fun too. It also helps to reduce the incidence of health related problems such as heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes, osteoporosis and helps to maintain a healthy weight. With an advanced knowledge of how to keep your body moving, our Physiotherapists can help plan your exercise regime, prescribe exercises to strengthen your weak areas and choose the right activity to suit your needs.
Stress is a normal part of day to day life. However, when we experience prolonged stress that is not managed effectively, it can lead to a build of adrenalin causing muscle tension, high blood pressure and poor sleep quality. This in turn can also cause emotional dysregulation such as anxiety and depression. Symptoms of stress may include headaches, panic attacks, increased incidences of asthma attacks and stress-related skin conditions. Physiotherapy can help with stress management by helping to identify contributing lifestyle factors, coping strategies, behavior modification and advice on relaxation techniques such as deep breathing. It could be something as simple as going for walks out in nature! Physios will also recommend referrals to other relevant healthcare professionals if necessary.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Physiotherapy is a regulated healthcare profession focused on the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of pain, injuries, and movement dysfunction. At Evolve Vancouver, our Physiotherapists work one-on-one with you to determine the root cause of your discomfort. They provide diagnoses, evidence-based treatments, and customized exercise programs to help you recover from sports injuries, chronic pain, or accidents and improve your overall quality of life.
Yes, we accept ICBC claims for physiotherapy and offer direct billing with select practitioners. If you are recovering from a motor vehicle accident, your 45-minute Initial ICBC Physiotherapy appointment has a $0 user fee. Subsequent 30-minute ICBC follow-up sessions also have a $0 user fee. Please contact our clinic to verify practitioner availability for direct billing.
Yes, we offer direct billing to most major extended health insurance and work benefit providers. This makes it simple and affordable to get the care you need without the hassle of submitting receipts yourself. Please contact our clinic to verify if we can directly bill your insurance. You’ll need to contact your insurance provider for plan specific coverage information.
Your first visit starts with a thorough interview so we can hear your story and understand your unique health history. The physiotherapist will then perform physical assessments—such as checking joint range of motion, strength, and functional movement—to determine the contributing factors to your pain. Finally, they will collaborate with you to create a personalized treatment and exercise plan.
Our modern approach encompasses a wide variety of evidence-based treatments. Depending on your needs, your session may include joint mobilization or manipulation, manual stretching, myofascial treatment, IMS (Dry Needling), traction, and specialized therapies for concussions, headaches, and vestibular (dizziness/balance) issues.
Absolutely. Our physiotherapists are trained to assess and treat concussions and vestibular disorders. We provide specialized eye movement and tracking assessments, alongside targeted vestibular and concussion rehabilitation therapies to help manage dizziness, headaches, and balance issues safely and effectively.
Yes, exercise prescription is a core component of our 4-step physiotherapy process. While hands-on manual therapy is excellent for reducing immediate joint stiffness and pain, active exercises build long-term resilience. We will prescribe a realistic, targeted exercise routine—from mobility work to strength training—to empower you to take your health into your own hands.
We apply a holistic, “biopsychosocial” lens to our care. This means we look beyond just the physical injury to understand how lifestyle habits, physical activity levels, and even daily stress are contributing to your pain. We include this in our treatment plans to help you manage stress, improve daily habits, and optimize your overall well-being.
No, you do not need a referral from a doctor to book a physiotherapy appointment in British Columbia. Physiotherapists are primary healthcare providers. However, some specific extended health insurance plans may require a doctor’s note for you to be reimbursed, so it is always a good idea to check your policy details.
